Why Should You Have Your Gas Fireplace Serviced
At Flowertown Gas Fireplace and Chimney Service, one of the most common questions we get is whether or not a customer really needs to have their fireplace serviced. The two biggest reasons for doing so are appliance reliability and safety. The truth is it's very important to adhere to the manufacturer's guidelines and have the system inspected and serviced annually by a certified gas specialist.
Failure to do so could result in the production of lethal carbon monoxide gas, which is odorless and requires special equipment to detect. With proper maintenance and regular checks, you can enjoy the warmth of your gas hearth system with confidence and peace of mind.
If you haven't kept up with gas fireplace maintenance and believe something is wrong with your hearth or chimney, consider gas fireplace repair in Charleston, SC.

Essential Wood Burning Fireplace Safety Tips
Having a wood fireplace is a wonderful addition to any home, but it needs to be maintained and repaired, or else it can be very hazardous to your family. Try following these safety tips when enjoying your wood stove or fireplace.

Keep a Fire Extinguisher Nearby
To increase the likelihood of effectively controlling a fire and preventing it from spreading, it is important to have a fire extinguisher nearby. This can significantly reduce the response time in the event of a fire, as every second counts.

Look for Chimney Cracks
Try to regularly inspect your chimney for any cracks, obstructions, or signs of damage. Cracks can be particularly dangerous, as they can allow heat, smoke, and harmful gases to escape into your home. Cracks can also serve as an entry point for water, which can be particularly harmful.

Talk to Your Family
To ensure safety around your wood burning fireplace, it's essential to educate your family, especially kids, about the potential hazards of fire and the importance of responsible behavior. By teaching them wood fireplace safety measures, you'll create a secure environment for everyone in your house.

Have Your Chimney Inspected by a Seasoned Chimney Sweep in South Carolina
Regular chimney inspections and cleanings prioritize safety and maintenance while providing peace of mind and reducing the risk of chimney fires. Plus, by having your wood fireplace inspected, you'll have peace of mind knowing it works when weather starts to freeze.

Protect Your Property with Chimney Cap Installation in Charleston, SC
If you've ever looked at a house and noted how great the top of their chimney looked, it's probably because they had an attractive chimney cap. Chimney caps and chase pans play a crucial role in both the functionality of a chimney system and the aesthetic appeal of a home's exterior. A well-designed chimney cap safeguards the chimney from animal intrusion, minimizes wind-induced downdraft, and is an essential component in preventing water entry, which can cause significant damage to chimneys.
If you're looking to add or replace your current chimney cap, you're in the right place. Our collection of custom chimney caps comes in a variety of styles and colors to match or supplement your home's beauty. Of course, as professional chimney sweepers in South Carolina, we also offer chimney cap repair and water prevention options where necessary.
How Do You Know When a Chimney Cap Needs Maintenance?
Your home's chimney cap is likely the highest point of your home, making it an easy feature to forget about when it comes to yearly maintenance or repair. That's unfortunate, because even small damage to your chimney and its cap can allow debris and water to enter. Do yourself a favor and examine your chimney cap regularly for the following red flags:
- Visible Cracks
- Loose Bricks
- Tiles Falling from Chimney
- Cracked Mortar Joints
- Rust in Fireplace
- More
If you notice any of the following signs, you should call Flowertown Gas Fireplace & Chimney Service for expert chimney cap repair.

Bishop Jacques Fabre-Jeune of the Diocese of Charleston expressed "deep sorrow" in response to Pope Francis' death.
Francis, the first Latin American pontiff who strongly advocated for the poor, died Monday. He was 88.
"His leadership, compassion and unwavering commitment to peace and justice have inspired millions worldwide, and in a special way the young," Fabre-Jeune wrote in statement.
Fabre-Jeune, who was appointed by Francis as the Bishop of Charleston in 2022, wrote that the Pope reminded parishioners of the "importance of mercy, forgiveness and love," especially to those who are suffering, impoverished and struggling with addiction or illness.
"As we mourn his passing and grieve, we also rejoice in the hope of the Resurrection," he wrote. "Let us turn to prayer, asking for his intercession and entrusting his soul to God’s mercy as we carry his legacy of love, humility and service to others."
Francis, who suffered from lung disease and had part of one lung removed when he was young, developed double pneumonia after he was admitted to Gemelli hospital for a respiratory crisis on Feb. 14.
Francis' final public appearance was on Easter Sunday, a day before his death, as he blessed thousands of people at St. Peter's Square. Francis performed the blessing from the same spot he was introduced as pope on March 13, 2013.

A new restaurant run by a locally based celebrity chef is preparing to touch down at Charleston International.
When visitors to the airport's Kardea Brown's Southern Kitchen sit down for "contemporary Lowcountry cuisine," Food Network chef Kardea Brown wants them to feel like family.
A sign that reads "Hey cousins!" was installed above the bar in the space that previously housed Jack Nicklaus Golden Bear Grill. Brown says fans of her shows or cookbooks will likely recognize the menu selections.
She's the host of "Delicious Miss Brown" and is known for known for her regional Gullah-inspired cuisine.
Brown was scheduled to hold a soft opening April 19 at CHS. A grand opening is planned for May 15.
The restaurant is part of a $6 million investment that airport concessionaire Delaware North plans to make in its latest shakeup of dining options.
Brown was onsite the week of April 14 to train staff and put the finishing touches on the space.
"As a Charleston girl born and raised, it's just a dream come true to have a restaurant named after me in the Charleston airport," she said.
Now on tour
A company that describes itself as the nation's largest operator of themed sightseeing vehicles has brought its Old Town Trolley Tours to Charleston.
Historic Tours of America Inc. launched operations in the Holy City earlier this month.

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - Charleston County Public Works is working to repair stormwater pipes in a much less invasive and disruptive way.
They’re now using “trenchless” technology so they can repair pipes and structures without digging trenches in streets or yards and not disrupt folks’ commutes.
With this new technology, Charleston County has been able to repair thousands of feet of pipes, sinkholes and install tidal check valves in five different communities from Ladson to Folly Beach. These include Woodside Manor, Heaton Place, Plymouth Avenue, the Capri Isles neighborhood and Kingfish Circle.
There are two ways crews are fixing the issues. The first is through a cured-in-place pipe. This is where a flexible liner is inserted into a damaged pipe and hardened with steam. The second is when foam is injected into cracks or voids.
Charleston County Public Works Project Manager John Primm says if crews repaired these pipes the traditional way by digging in the ground and removing the pipe completely, it could take a week or longer to fix it. With the new systems, he says repairs can be as quick as one day.
“Every time one of these repairs is done, that strengthens the system overall and causes more resilience to the system,” Primm said. “So, if there were a big storm or a hurricane, they would be more resilient and be able to fare better.”
Charleston County adds that these techniques are safer, faster and can be more cost-effective than what they were doing before.
Most of the communities worked on so far had historic drainage problems, and Primm says they don’t have any other large projects planned next.
However, if anyone has any issues in their neighborhood, they are asked to contact the Charleston County Public Works Stormwater Hotline at 843-202-7639 or email stormwater@charlestoncounty.org.
